New Bedroom Decoration That I Made

Today I am excited to share a new decoration I made for the wall in my master bedroom.  I had watched a couple of videos on YouTube of other creations that people had made using the 7 Gypsies printers trays.  You can get these at local craft or scrapbooking stores.

I wanted to make one to match the colors in my room.  I forgot to take a picture of the wall hanging but you can forward to near the end of the video to see it completed.

Creative Crafts: The Magic Rice Bag

So, you might be wondering why I call this a magic rice bag.  Well, follow my tutorial, make your own and at the end of the post I will explain why.

To make this project you will need:  some rice, a piece of material (cotton), sewing machine & thread.  That’s it!  Oh, a funnel also helps to fill the bag but you can use a rolled up piece of paper too.

The amount of rice and material size just depend on how big and how full you want your bag.  I made this one approx. 8″ by 8″ and only used half the bag of rice.  It’s not very full but that is the way my boys like it.

Once you have your piece of material cut to size place the right sides of the fabric together.  You will only have to sew 3 sides because one side is the fold and doesn’t require any sewing.

You will want to stitch around all 3 sides stopping about 3″ from the end.  This is to leave a hole to put the rice in and to flip the bag right side out.

I double stitch the bag to make sure it is more secure.  You don’t have to be a great sewer, just look at my crooked lines.  :-)   You will not see this once the bag is complete.

Once you are done stitching you will need to turn the bag right side out.  Just carefully stuff the bag through the opening you left.

Now you can start filling it with your rice.

Once it is filled as much as you like it is time to stitch it closed.  I fold under the edges to make a nice straight seam and then just stitch it closed right over the top.  You will see this stitching so you may want to pick a thread color that matches.

Tada!  Your completed magic rice bay.  Pop this into the microwave oven for 1 to 2 1/2 minutes depending on how hot you like it and use to sooth those aches.

OK, the explanation now.  The reason I say that is both of my boys have their own rice bag.  These things have been loved so much that I have had to make a replacement already.  Anytime the boys have an ache, pain or are upset or whatever they like to use these bags.  They just make everything feel better.

Christmas Decorations

I had an idea to make a really cute Christmas decoration that didn’t cost much money.  I wanted to post it for you.  I hope that it inspires some new decorations of your own.

First I started off with a huge vase I bought at Goodwill.  I paid $1.69 for this vase.  Then I purchased 4 tubes (only 3 are shown) of Christmas ball ornaments from the Target dollar section.

Next, you just open them up and pour the ornaments into the vase.

Never mind the fingerprints on the vase, man I need to clean that thing up.  Here is the almost finished product.  I had to run to the store for one more tube of ornaments.

Here is the finished product.  I put it on the table in my entryway.  I added a cute garland from Target for a little extra sparkle and randomly placed a few more ornaments.

This was a really inexpensive decoration that I think adds a nice touch.
